Commissioning Artwork

I enjoy doing custom pieces for people who enjoy my style but want something a little more personalized, and from time to time make them available depending on my workload. I use quality materials and with an eye for detail, your artwork will be created with the same collaborative conversation, care and personal attention I use for all my pieces. You can follow me on my Facebook art page, and I often share the progress shots as I'm working on a piece.

I create in a number of different styles - from coloured pencils to full acrylic paintings, to mixed media. I am not, however, a photocopier and if multiple copies of an artwork is required then we can discuss having prints made from the one custom artwork I produce.

The Process

Idea.

We will have an e-mail or private facebook conversation about what you would like me to create. This conversation will help develop your idea, and nut out any issues I can foresee with your requirements. (I do not provide photoshop mockups at this stage of the process).

Payment.

Once we agree on a proposal, you hire me by paying the 50% deposit to begin work (I will send a PayPal invoice or create a custom listing online) and making payment.

Provide all info.

If a portrait has been commissioned, you will need to provide me with high quality photographs via e-mail. I rely on being able to see the detail in photographs so blurry, distant shots are of no use. I also prefer to replicate an image in my style from an original photo, and while I can merge a number of images together to form one composition, one photo where the subject is positioned correctly to work with the artwork is necessary.

Work.

After we have completed the items above, I begin work. "Work," means any tangible work product, including but not limited to color studies, photoshop mockups, sketches and any drawing or painting on the chosen canvas type. I always keep my clients updated on the progress of their piece. I like to post my work in progress on social networking sites, so if the painting is a gift that needs to be a surprise, let me know in advance.

Coloured Pencil/Pastel Portraiture

I would recommend using a double matt when framing to ensure the glass stays away from the artwork, this will reduce the chance of any damage through condensation.
Allow 3-4 weeks for creation before it is ready for delivery.

PRICES effective March 1 2018 (GST inclusive):

A minimum 50% deposit is required in order to begin work
A4 - NZ$175 + delivery most popular commission size
A3 - NZ$280 + delivery

Additional sizes and shapes available upon request

Pet Portraits (or other subjects) on Mixed Media Canvas Panels

For a single image, mixed media portrait on canvas board charges vary with the canvas size. Please note that canvas board is more flexible than a canvas as it's usually around 6mm deep. It's very suited to framing (I would recommend framing with a gap between the glass and the canvas board to avoid condensation), although it can be hung as is.

Artworks on Canvas or Hardboard Panels

INFORMATION:

Generally I don't do commissioned human portraits solely in acrylics as I prefer the flexibility of mixed media for those pieces. However I do, on occasion, have openings for animal or bird paintings. For these I will quote on the piece requested individually and the process is very similar to the way I work in other media.

You send me a number of high resolution, clear and close up photographs of the subject, preferably positioned how you would like them or we can get some ideas together and come up with a concept.

As an example: the two Fantails painting above was commissioned as a wedding present, the two representing the bride and groom and the flowers chosen to suit the decor of their home, being grey with pops of red.

  1. Choose the size you would like
  2. I send you a Paypal request for 50% deposit of the agreed upon final cost
  3. Upon receiving deposit I create the piece and when complete, do a Paypal request for the remainder of the Payment
  4. Item is sent via either Courier or International Courier. NZ Post will no longer send artwork via Standard Mail or Airmail for overseas deliveries
  5. Allow 6-8 weeks for delivery depending on size and my workload
  6. Artwork is satin varnished to protect it, edges are painted to suit the image (usually black but sometimes the image will continue on the sides)
